50 Men Who Made LFC: Alex Raisbeck

The club's first ever star player and the man who helped put Liverpool on the footballing map, Alex Raisbeck captained the Reds to their earliest trophy triumphs.

His Anfield career spanned 11 seasons, during which time the Scotland international evolved into one of the best centre-backs of his era.

In 1900-01, he was the driving force behind Liverpool’s first league success and was even better as they repeated the feat in 1905-06.

Following the shock of relegation two years earlier, Raisbeck had stayed loyal to the club and helped steer them back to the top flight at the first time of asking.

He then led by example once more as Liverpool became the first club to win the Second and First Division titles in successive years.

His love for the club was evident for all to see. After spells in management elsewhere, he later returned to take up a scouting position but will forever remembered as the first of an illustrious line of great Scots.
