Harry Wilson set for U23s return on Friday night

Harry Wilson is set to make his comeback for Liverpool U23s on Friday night when the Reds face Fleetwood Town in the final of the Molson Coors Lancashire Senior Cup.

Wilson sustained an Achilles problem after returning to training at Melwood in July and therefore hasn’t played since last season.

But his period of rehabilitation is now complete, with U23s boss Neil Critchley telling Liverpoolfc.com: “He has trained with us the last couple of days and stepped up his rehab and he has looked good.

“Maybe he will have some involvement against Fleetwood Town. You’ve got to bear in mind he hasn’t played since the final game of last season and his pre-season was interrupted, but fingers crossed he will get some minutes on Friday night.

“It’s great to have Harry back. He had an unbelievable 2016-17 season as captain for the U23s.

“I’ve worked with him at U18 level and I think he has really progressed as a player and a person as well. He is much more mature on his outlook of the game and his own game, and he developed massively last year.

“Michael Beale, Mike Garrity, all of the staff deserve a lot of credit for helping him. He got his chance at Melwood and he is heading in the right direction.

“Hopefully he can stay fit now and start where he left off last season.”

The final of the Molson Coors Lancashire Cup is at the County Ground in Leyland, with kick-off set for 7.30pm BST. You can watch the match live on LFCTV GO. Click here to find out more.
