Xabi Alonso describes his LFC teammates... with emojis

Ahead of his return to Anfield, former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso has used a very different method to describe some of his old teammates – through emojis!

The Spaniard, a Champions League and FA Cup winner with the Reds, will be back on Merseyside on Saturday for the LFC Legends’ charity match against Bayern Munich.

Alonso is set to play 45 minutes for the home side and reunite with the likes of Daniel Agger, Luis Garcia, Steven Gerrard, Dietmar Hamann, Dirk Kuyt and John Arne Riise in a game that raises funds for the LFC Foundation.

Before then, we set him an amusing task: choose the most suitable emoji for each of those Legends teammates and a host of other stars he shared a dressing room with at Anfield.

Find out which striker was ‘on fire’, who was a ‘top bloke’, why the ghost was the best choice for one compatriot, and – with no surprise – the recipient of the ‘cool’ icon…

Money raised from the charity game will help to fund a variety of projects for the LFC Foundation and charity partners. You can watch the match for free, live on the official LFC Facebook page, LFCTV GO, Sky channel 429 and Virgin Media channel 544 (3pm GMT kick-off).
