“It’s crazy, I can’t believe how much it’s took off. I just keep getting texts, my phone’s been going literally all day, I keep getting texts saying ‘it’s moved up the charts, it’s moved up the charts’ and it’s just crazy,” Webster told Liverpoolfc.com.
“It’s great as well because it’s all going to a really great charity which deals with things first-hand at home and that’s what it’s all about in this city.”
Webster’s version of the song that has soundtracked Liverpool’s inexorable path through the Champions League knockout stages to Saturday’s final was made available to purchase via download on iTunes and Google on Thursday morning.
All proceeds will go to An Hour For Others, an Anfield-based charity that supports members of the L4 community in various ways. For more information on the voluntary organisation, click here.
“I know the fella who owns the charity personally and I know what he’s had to go through to get this started up, so he deserves it more than anyone,” Webster said.
“We’ve had it in mind for a while but we’ve had to take the right route and speak to all the right people before we could do it. It’s phenomenal.
“For me, it just goes to show what this city and the supporters are all about and hopefully it keeps rising and keeps making money for the charity, which deserves it.”
Webster is the closing act at LFC’s pre-match show at Kiev’s Shevchenko Park on Saturday - and the BOSS Night singer would love nothing more than to take to the stage with ‘Allez, Allez, Allez’ top of the charts having raised plenty of money for An Hour For Others.
The deadline for this week’s chart is midnight UK time on Thursday.
He continued: “It’d be brilliant. I’m just nervous with excitement, for the past two or three days I’ve been the same. I’ve been itching to get over there and all this today has just kicked it up another level. I can’t sit still! I’m buzzing.
“It’d be a different story if I was trying to call it my own and earning money off this, but we’re not taking anything from it, we’re not wanting anything from it. This song is about the people, so the money should go to the people. That’s our view on the whole thing.”
