Here’s a flavour of what’s coming up tonight…

Aston Villa (h) – May 3, 1980

Going into the penultimate fixture of the Football League season in 1979-80, Liverpool stood on the brink of another league championship triumph. Just two points were required at home to Aston Villa and a capacity crowd packed into Anfield to cheer Bob Paisley’s side on.

Newcastle United (a) – September 20, 1987

Liverpool were looking to build on their impressive start to the season when they made this trip north. For Peter Beardsley, a club-record signing earlier that summer, it was a return to his former home but the post-match headlines would go to an unlikely goalscoring hero.

Everton (h) – November 7, 1981

Anfield was the venue for the first Merseyside derby of the 1981-82 season and it was to be a profitable afternoon for Liverpool’s front two – the old master Kenny Dalglish and his young apprentice Ian Rush, who netted the first of his record-breaking haul against the Blues.

Chelsea (a) – May 3, 1986
