Walking Netball, which will go hand-in-hand with the Red Neighbours’ Walking Football programme, aims to create a fun and social setting in which over 50s can enjoy partaking in physical activity.
Participant, Andrea Gumbs, said: “This initiative is amazing. You can have a laugh, get fit, burn some calories and meet new friends as well. It’s so exciting!”
Fellow player Pauline Davey added: “I really enjoyed it. Meeting new people and having a laugh is confidence building, and it helps to keep you active!”
Both the Walking Netball and Walking Football sessions - held at Anfield Sports and Community Centre - are part-funded by the FA Community Shield Fund and will run on a weekly basis until the end of the year.
The Red Neighbours programme supports local residents and schools in the Anfield community, focusing on four key areas: food poverty and education; support for the elderly community; encouraging a physically active community; and creating memorable experiences for young people.
