LFC Foundation teams up with WISH in Qatar

LFC Foundation joined forces with the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) in Qatar recently to host a football training course aimed at engaging children with autism or sensory and physical impairments.

The week-long training course in Doha focused on effective ways for those working in a sporting environment to engage with children with additional needs - helping them to reach their potential, socialise and pursue a healthy lifestyle through participation in sport.

The programme - called Respect 4 All, Qatar - included both classroom and practical outdoor sessions, allowing coaches to work directly with Qatar-based autistic children. The week culminated with a festival day, which gave an opportunity for participating coaches and youngsters to come together to enjoy a range of fun activities.

Andrea Cooper, head of the LFC Foundation, said: “We are delighted to have had the opportunity to collaborate with WISH on their inclusive training programme for local children in Qatar.

“Our coaching team is highly experienced in delivering specialist sports sessions that promote inclusion and wellbeing and achieve our goal of creating life-changing opportunities for children and young people in Liverpool and beyond.

“I would like to thank WISH for welcoming the Foundation to Qatar and I hope that all the participants had a positive and fun experience.”

Sultana Afdhal, acting CEO of WISH, added: “To see local coaches benefiting from the expertise, professionalism and warmth of the LFC Foundation team is extremely rewarding.

“As well as being a globally famous and successful football club, Liverpool FC is well known in the UK and around the world for its strong commitment to using sport to benefit communities.

“WISH is delighted to have had the opportunity to bring the LFC Foundation team to Qatar and to work with them to deliver a program that we hope will have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of children with disabilities within our local community for many years to come.”
