The special event was held to honour and remember the life of Reds fan Owen, who attended the school. He sadly passed away in December 2015, aged 11, following a short battle with leukaemia.
After a morning of Owen’s favourite activities, including watching The Polar Express movie and enjoying a sushi lunch, a memorial plaque was unveiled at the newly renamed 'Owen’s Field'.
Following the celebration, Joanne and Mark McVeigh – who founded the Owen McVeigh Foundation in memory of their son – headed to Alder Hey Children’s hospital, where they were presented with a special award on behalf of the Prime Minister in recognition of their fundraising efforts.
The McVeighs were given the Points of Light award, which commends 'outstanding individual volunteers', by LFC's first team squad and the Lord Mayor of Liverpool.
