Reds legend shares skills with grassroots players

Liverpool legend Jason McAteer visited a grassroots soccer clinic in Dublin on Saturday to share his expertise with local youngsters.

Junior players from Larkview FC, one of the oldest football clubs in Dublin, attended a special session at their Whelan Park training centre as part of the Reds' pre-season visit to the Irish capital.

Former Republic of Ireland international McAteer took the participants through various skills and drills and agility sessions, before answering the youngsters' questions and signing autographs.

"Visiting these sessions and having a kickabout with the kids is always a highlight of our pre-season trips," he said.

"Getting out and supporting the local communities we visit is so important, and it's a privilege for me to come down and help out with the grassroots teams.

"Our community coaches do a fantastic job in teaching the kids The Liverpool Way, and highlighting the importance of developing social skills as well as football skills."

In the build-up to the game against Napoli on Saturday evening, coaches from LFC's community team held a number of soccer clinics for local grassroots players, run alongside the Football Association of Ireland.

More than 300 young people, from U8 to U17 levels, attended the sessions across Friday and Saturday.
