The weekly sessions aim to create a fun and sociable setting in which people aged 50 and over from the Anfield area can enjoy physical activity, with participants receiving training from qualified England Netball coaches.
Since its launch just over a year ago, the sessions have grown in popularity, with over 77 women engaged in the back to netball programme. Of this number, 19 were new to netball and hadn’t done much exercise in a long time and 75 per cent were over the age of 65.
One regular participant is Ann Doyle, who discovered a love for the sport at 65. You can find out more about her story here.
Walking Netball takes place every Friday between 11.30am to 12.30pm at Anfield Sports and Community Centre. New players are always welcome, and the netball is followed by a cup of tea and a chat in the cafe.
Walking Netball supports two of the key areas of focus for Red Neighbours: engaging with the elderly community and encouraging a physically active community.
