LFC Foundation visits military veterans programme in Boston

LFC Foundation joined the Red Sox Foundation to visit a military veterans programme in Boston, USA, this week.

Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital programme, is dedicated to healing the mental and emotional wounds for veterans, service members and their families.

The centre, headquartered in Boston’s Charlestown Navy Yard, provides life-saving clinical care and support for those impacted by post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, anxiety, depression, co-occuring substance use disorder, family relationship challenges and other issues associated with military service.

Home Base has also made reducing the stigma associated with connecting to care a key priority of their work with veterans.

LFC Foundation staff met with executive leadership and clinicians at the centre to learn more about their programme and discuss LFC Foundation’s own military veterans initiative.

"This is a program that understands veterans and all the things that come with what they’ve been through," said Brigadier General (ret.) Jack Hammond, Home Base executive director.

"We are deeply grateful to the LFC Foundation for their interest in learning more about our mission and understanding that the invisible wounds affect men and women all over the world. The key is to get care, start the process. We can give veterans hope for a better life."

Ten tickets for LFC’s pre-season game at Fenway Park stadium were also donated to the centre for patients to use.

The Reds will take on Sevilla FC at the home of the Boston Red Sox on Sunday July 21 as part of their 2019-20 pre-season preparations.
