Young sailors go on special voyage thanks to LFC Foundation donation

LFC Foundation's Community Fund has recently enabled disadvantaged young sailors from Merseyside to participate in a cross-country voyage across the UK.

The Tall Ships Youth Trust, the UK’s oldest and largest sail training charity, is dedicated to giving disadvantaged or disabled young people the opportunity to develop teamwork, communication and life skills through experiences at sea.

Ten youngsters from the Hive Youth Zone in Wirral were selected to take part in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity – setting sail from Devon, through the Isles of Scilly and Cardiff before arriving in Liverpool.

The club’s official charity donated £3,000 in order to provide bursaries for the young sailors aged 12 to 18, who participated on the voyage from Brixham, Devon to Liverpool.

LFC Foundation’s Community Fund was created using £100,000 raised from last year’s legends charity match against AC Milan at Anfield.

Alicia Burnett, communications and PR officer at Tall Ships Youth Trust, said: “We were absolutely delighted to receive the donation from the LFC Foundation.

“At Tall Ships Youth Trust, it’s about providing unforgettable, character-building experiences for young people and with donations made, we can make this happen.

“These voyages provide a challenging environment for young sailors who can use the teamworking and confidence-building experience to progress in all aspects of life.”

According to the charity, more than 90 per cent of those who sail with the trust believe the voyages help develop their teamworking, communication and problem-solving skills and the same number believe they increase their long-term life opportunities.

Since the founding of this charity, funding has provided more than 120,000 people with the opportunity to take voyage – learning lifelong skills such as teamwork, confidence, leadership and much more.

LFC Foundation’s Community Fund will be made available again this year, with another £100k being allocated from funds raised at the upcoming legends charity game on March 28 at Anfield against Barça Legends.
