Red Neighbours, the club’s local community programme, donated boxes of treats and chocolates to Liverpool Clinical Laboratories staff and colleagues from the Porter and Estates teams, which were delivered this week by Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.
Forbes Duff, Red Neighbours manager, said: “We’re honoured to be able to support all of our key workers and play our part in recognising the incredible work they are doing in any small way we can.”
The hampers were provided by Red Neighbours and the wider LFC family – including LFC Foundation – as part of the club’s ‘Unity is Strength’ response to COVID-19.
Support for the NHS and Liverpool City Region’s key workers has formed a large part of the club’s community work in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, with club chefs providing fresh meals, volunteers delivering treats, Easter eggs and cookies, and a special message on the Anfield turf among the initiatives.
Gary Oakford, area manager at Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, said: “I have witnessed first-hand the work the staff from Liverpool University Hospital Foundation Trust have done over the course of recent months – in particular, during the run-up to the Easter period, it was evident that the pressures placed on those staff were exceptionally high and everyone was working tirelessly in support of each other and the Trust.
“I was naturally pleased that through our relationship with Red Neighbours and the LFC Foundation we could find a truly deserving home for these items.”
Alyson Constantine from Liverpool University Hospital Foundation Trust added: “I am so proud of the staff from Liverpool Clinical Laboratories and Porters and Estates colleagues, who not only worked together to set up additional services but whom have worked tirelessly doing additional shifts at weekends and into the night to ensure our patients have been cared for in the way that we would all want for ourselves and our families if unfortunate to be in the same situation.”
