Local community cooks up a treat with Cadbury

Local community groups and businesses in Liverpool have taken part in a special 'bake-off' challenge using limited edition Dairy Milk bars donated by Cadbury – and Reds fans can now vote for their favourite creation.

The club’s official global snacking partner gifted the chocolate to community groups and businesses across Red Neighbours’ network in Anfield and Kirkby for use in the challenge, with each group tasked with producing the most creative and original LFC-themed cake, sweet treat or recipe with the Dairy Milk bars.

Participants will be able use the LFC creations and any remaining limited edition Dairy Milk bars as they wish – such as to produce additional goods for sale in their café, as a treat for service users or as part of long-awaited social get-togethers.

The winning team will also receive two tickets to the Reds’ first Premier League home game of the season, against Burnley on Saturday August 21.

Take a look at the five shortlisted entries below and scroll down to vote for your favourite!

Voting is open until Sunday August 15 and the overall winner will be announced on Monday August 16.

Entry 1 – The League of Welldoers

One of Liverpool’s oldest independent charities, the League of Welldoers aims to reach out to people of all ages in the community of Merseyside and provide opportunities to maintain and improve their quality of life.

Their LFC treat – entitled L.F.C. (Liverpool’s Favourite Chocolate) – was created using melted Dairy Milk bars and a laser-printed cookie cutter to replicate the Reds’ Liver bird logo.

The treats and remaining bars were gifted to elderly members of the League of Welldoers’ local community.

Entry 2 – Everton And Anfield Together (EAT), Christ Church Holy Trinity Walton Breck

Located directly opposite Anfield on Walton Breck Road, Everton And Anfield Together is a registered charity which aims to support disadvantaged residents in the Everton and Anfield areas. They operate two foodbanks, a debt advice centre and the ‘Scouse in the House’ initiative, which provides hot food for those in need of a meal.

They will use any remaining bars as gifts for local centres such as Bob Paisley Court retirement housing, Maritime Lodge sheltered accommodation, and Milvina House community care hub.

Entry 3 – L6 Community Association

Based close to Anfield, the L6 Community Association run a community centre for local people, offering free-of-charge meeting facilities for local residents, adult learning and training classes/sessions, fitness classes, social club/bingo, and school holiday play schemes for children and young people.

As well as in their trophy-themed cake, the Dairy Milk bars were used by children at summer school to make Rice Krispie cakes and in afternoon tea boxes for older residents who would usually attend events at the centre.

Entry 4 – Homebaked Bakery

A community-owned bakery in the shadow of Anfield, Homebaked Bakery is part of Homebaked Community Land Trust – a growing group of local residents who have been working together since 2012 to shape the place where they live and work in community ownership.

Homebaked used Dairy Milk bars in their pie-themed creation, as well as in some cakes – available in their café – and in a gift to local sheltered accommodation.

Entry 5 – The Epsy

Located in north Liverpool, Epsom Street Community Centre – known as The Epsy – aims to bring about change through education, raising aspirations, raising hope and inspiring community unity.

Children at The Epsy created a range of LFC-themed treats with the Dairy Milk bars, including a replica of Anfield, a chocolate LFC match ticket, and a tribute to the 97 supporters who died as a result of events at the Hillsborough disaster.

The remaining bars will be gifted to local residents as part of a centre trip to Blackpool this summer.
