We're currently celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Reds' League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup triumphs with a series of interviews and features here on Liverpoolfc.com.

Today, our focus is on the statistics that underpinned the heroic efforts of Houllier's men over the course of 2000-01...


127 – goals were scored by Liverpool in the season, at a rate of almost precisely two per match

117 – the minute of the Golden Goal that earned the Reds the UEFA Cup in Dortmund

69 – points was the club’s highest tally in the league since 1995-96

63 – games Houllier’s side played during the 2000-01 season

61 – appearances by goalkeeper Sander Westerveld was the highest total of any member of the squad. Markus Babbel played more than any other outfielder with 60 matches

38 – wins Liverpool clinched in all competitions

31 – times the Reds netted in the final 15 minutes of a game

28 – clean sheets were registered by Houllier’s men in all competitions

10 – years without a win at Old Trafford was ended courtesy of Murphy’s free-kick in December 2000

10 – minutes was the delay to the Reds’ UEFA Cup semi-final first leg against FC Barcelona, to allow for a special edition of EastEnders to be broadcast by the BBC

9 – new signings joined the club and debuted in 2000-01: Pegguy Arphexad, Babbel, Barmby, Igor Biscan, Bernard Diomede, Jari Litmanen, Gary McAllister, Christian Ziege and Gregory Vignal)

8 – nil was Liverpool’s biggest win of the campaign, achieved in the League Cup fourth round at Stoke City. It remains the highest margin of victory in an away match in the club’s history

7 – red cards the Reds received, including two in one game (for McAllister and Dietmar Hamann) at Arsenal in August 2000

5 – minutes separated Owen’s brace to overturn a 1-0 deficit against Arsenal in the FA Cup final

4 – hat-tricks were scored during the season, with two provided by Owen and one apiece from Fowler and Heskey

2 – players featured in every league fixture of the season: Westerveld and Babbel

1 – Liverpool were the only team to beat AS Roma at their own stadium in the 2000-01 season
