Sadio Mane could make a speedy return to action at the London Stadium on Saturday after a spell out due to a hamstring injury picked up during last month’s international break.
The Senegal forward has trained with the team at Melwood this week and, at his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, Klopp provided an optimistic update on a potential comeback in the capital.
“We will see what we do with that,” said the manager. “Yesterday it looked like he is ready for at least 20/25 minutes.
“But we have to wait to see how his body reacts to the session because for him it was pretty intense; not because it was intense but because it was his first football session for a long time.”
Philippe Coutinho will not be involved at the ground where he scored twice last season, though. The No.10 is set to miss a third successive game with an adductor issue.
Elsewhere, Dejan Lovren (thigh) and Georginio Wijnaldum (ankle) are battling to be fit having sustained injuries at the home games with Huddersfield Town and Maribor respectively.
“We know that in weeks like this you have to wait until the last second to make the squad or the line-up,” explained Klopp.
For their part, the Hammers have been struck by a defensive crisis.
Pablo Zabaleta is suspended for this game after picking up his fifth yellow card of the campaign during the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace last weekend.
Meanwhile, Slaven Bilic is without four defenders due to injury. James Collins has been sidelined for a number of weeks, Jose Fonte picked up a knock at Selhurst Park, plus Sam Byram and Michail Antonio suffered muscle issues in training this week.
The Hammers can, however, call on the services of Aaron Cresswell and Winston Reid at the back.
“It doesn’t look great now in that area of the team,” said Bilic. “But we are in a position to have a good selection and put a good team out.”
