The Reds swept their opponents aside on the south coast with a fine display as they raced into a three-goal lead inside the first half.
Philippe Coutinho’s majestic opener sent the visitors on their way before Dejan Lovren headed in a second. Mohamed Salah then claimed his 20th of the season with a sublime solo effort before the break.
Roberto Firmino completed the scoring in the second half with a glancing header to put the seal on a fine afternoon’s work for Liverpool and move them up to fourth in the Premier League table.

LFCTV GO: Bournemouth 0-4 LFC - extended highlights
On his level of satisfaction with Liverpool’s performance…
Very, of course, how you can imagine. It’s a really tough place to come and if you are not as concentrated or as focused as we were today then I think it’s impossible to get something here. We were from the first second really, really spot-on. I liked the mix-up of being patient in different moments and being very lively in others. Very good organisation, defending, approach, idea and it worked out.
It was clear you cannot create chances minute by minute but we scored a fantastic first goal, which I would like to give 40 per cent to Andy Robertson because if he doesn’t make the run in Phil’s back then I think this version is completely different, but of course it was fantastic of Phil. Roberto forced the second goal, a fantastic third goal and even though it looked a little bit like offside a second ago when I saw it, a fantastic fourth goal.
We controlled the game in the second half, came not really in trouble. Bournemouth had only one real chance and of course, we had a lot more than we scored so I think it’s pretty fair that they didn’t use the one. That’s happened really often against us. So I am really happy about the full package we showed today. It was difficult so we are really satisfied.
On being back in the top four…
We couldn’t be higher – since this morning it was clear that if we win we are fourth, so yes I am happy about it but I didn’t think about it, to be honest.
On Robertson, who started his fourth consecutive Premier League game…
He didn’t have to wait, he had to train and to learn, that’s a different thing. Only because everyone is asking it looks like he has to wait. I’m happy about this, he made a big step today because the first two games were all good but Robbo can do much better and he knows that, but it’s normal [because] you have to gain rhythm and you need to get more confident. Today was a game when he really made the difference. The first pass he played in the back for Roberto, Roberto couldn’t get it but that was the idea and he did really well. He’s a fantastic football player so I am happy for him.
On Salah’s haul of 20 goals this season…
But what would happen if he would not score from now on? It’s still 20 after the season. I’m looking forward to it that he stays in that shape and still plays like this. He didn’t score against West Brom, for example, and we could have needed it much more in that game than today but things happen, I have no problem with it. He knows how much talk is always about Mo. He knows how much I respect and like him, but it’s not about the ‘Fab Four’ – I don’t like that name as well. I don’t go home and think ‘my God, what a player Mo Salah is, how good is he and all the others?’ That’s not how it works.
He is a very important player for us, like the others, but obviously for him it’s easier in the moment to finish the situations than the other players, and hopefully it stays like this for Mo, for example. Sadio, Oxlade, have big potential in this. Adam Lallana is back, so we need to bring altogether that we can play intensive football. Not because we want to play intensive football, only because the period is so intense that you have to cope with it, we have to deal with the situation. For that we need all the players and I am happy that today we got, even more importantly, the three points as well.
On his assessment of Bournemouth…
Very good. OK, today I think we were difficult to play, to be honest, but what we saw in the analysis was just good – well organised, clear structure and stuff like this. I really don’t think the game today was the real face of Bournemouth, but it showed what we can do and how we can cause Bournemouth problems. I don’t think you saw a lot of the normal things, the things you see normally in a game from Bournemouth. That was mainly because of the performance of my boys, it was really good. We were good in situations, everyone ready for defending. We had a defensive plan and it worked out, and that’s good.
On whether Manchester City can be caught by another side in the Premier League table…
I don’t know, I don’t have a crystal ball or whatever. It looks like. I have to say, [they have] all my respect. They fight for it. They are not flying in the moment, they really work hard for it and it’s deserved. They could have won all of their games and it’s not their fault they have so many points. If they struggle like maybe nobody has struggled before with the quality of Manchester City, then somebody should be there and use it – but I don’t see it in the moment. If I would have stopped working hard in the moment when I cannot be champion anymore in the league then I would not be here.
There is one team who can be it [champions] – sometimes the decision is a little bit earlier, sometimes a little bit later. We have so many things to play for and I enjoy the season in the moment. It is really hard, it is really intense, it is unbelievable how many points you will probably need at the end of the season to get anything. Most of the time we played our football, it is really nice to watch and successful. We play next Friday against Arsenal... wow. That’s a really hard one as well, but I’m looking forward to it.
On whether Liverpool will need 76 points again to finish in the top four…
I don’t think it will be much lower. Everybody is winning up there very often, so you need to carry on all the time and stay on track. I don’t know how many points. It doesn’t make it more likely when I say whatever, but a lot of teams are in a good shape – and City win all their games, so it’s difficult to get them.
On the importance of the forthcoming transfer window...
All the transfer windows are – or were – important, there is no doubt about that. But it depends whether you can be busy or not, or are you forced to be busy or not. That’s how it is. I have nothing to say about it, it’s just another window. We have won football games with a completely different line-up. If a club was dependent on one player, then you would really have problems. I am happy about my squad, but there is nothing to say about the transfer window.
