The forward has enjoyed one of the great debut seasons with Liverpool since joining the club from AS Roma last summer, scoring 31 goals in 37 games so far this term – including seven in the Champions League.
Records have tumbled under the weight of Salah’s relentless run while praise for his talent, work ethic and character arrives on an almost daily basis from around the world.
Underneath it all, however, the man himself has a very human wish.
“I’m trying to improve all the time because I want Egyptian people to follow my way,” he explained to Premier League Productions.
“It was difficult for an Egyptian player to be at that level and continue playing at that level for many years. I knew from the first day I went to Basel it is difficult – but I want to change that, I don’t want it anymore.
“I’m trying to work hard to see my weaknesses and work on them, to change that because we are a huge country. We are a big country, we have many children and everyone can do something.
“I want everyone to dream, to feel they can do something. I’m trying to change that.
“Now, I see the reaction of the people and they are happy. Everyone can dream and believe in themselves. I’m happy about that. This is my way. I always like to put myself under pressure to give more and improve myself.”
