Crystal Palace v Liverpool: Team news

Liverpool will be without Emre Can and Joe Gomez for Saturday's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace, but Nathaniel Clyne is back in contention.

The Reds resume their campaign at Selhurst Park in the lunchtime kick-off and travel to London missing two first-team squad members.

Gomez, who sustained an ankle injury on international duty with England, was assessed at Melwood this week and now faces a spell on the sidelines.

“At the moment, it’s serious – and serious enough to rule him out for the next couple of games,” Jürgen Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com on Friday.

Can was withdrawn during the 5-0 win over Watford before the international break due to a back injury, and therefore did not represent Germany.

The midfielder won’t feature against the Eagles either. “Emre is out for the weekend,” explained the manager before the squad set off.

“[He is] getting better and better and better, much better. Hopefully he can have a normal session with us on Sunday morning and then should be fine again.”

There was a positive update on Clyne, however.

After turning out for the U23s at Middlesbrough last Wednesday, the right-back is a ‘very good option’ again ahead of the meeting with one of his former clubs.

“One or two games more would be nice but the situation is like it is,” said Klopp. “He has been back for a few weeks already but he has come closer and closer.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson and Dominic Solanke are all fine.

Roy Hodgson has a number of fitness concerns to deal with ahead of Liverpool’s visit to south London.

There are doubts over Jeffrey Schlupp, who was forced off during the 2-0 win at Huddersfield Town before the international break, as well as striker Alexander Sørloth and centre-back James Tomkins.

Wilfried Zaha did not join up with Ivory Coast last week and Hodgson will make a late decision on whether the forward features at Selhurst Park.

“Zaha hasn’t been training to any great extent as we’re nursing his knee,” said the Eagles boss. “We hope the knee will be OK, but we’ve had to be cautious after he played against Huddersfield Town, as he came back much earlier than expected from injury.”

Connor Wickham will not be available after suffering a groin strain in training on Thursday.
