The Melwood forfeit revealed: Reds stars' bake off

After defeat in a four-team tournament in training on Tuesday, a forfeit awaited some members of the first-team squad and a member of the coaching staff at Melwood today.

Following the conclusion of Wednesday’s session Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, Daniel Sturridge and fitness coach Conall Murtagh were required to head to the complex’s canteen area to take their penalty.

The forfeit? Well, the clue is in the official name of the competition – ‘The Melwood Cake Baking Tournament’…

Yes, the six were required to make a sizeable batch of carrot cakes for the rest of the Liverpool squad and staff at the training facility, which’ll be served up on Thursday morning.

Overseen by head of nutrition Mona Nemmer and other members of the kitchen team, the line-up had to rustle up the goods from scratch using ingredients and a recipe laid out for them.

And it's fair to say their teammates enjoyed watching the lads don their aprons and get to work, with several members dropping by to capture a few shots on their mobile phones.

You can judge for yourself how it turned out in our photo gallery below...
