The logo was added to the Reds’ jerseys ahead of the Merseyside derby to mark the fifth anniversary of the volunteer group that has fed thousands of families across the region since it was launched in 2015.
Formed by Spirit of Shankly’s Ian Byrne MP and Dave Kelly from Everton’s Blue Union, Fans Supporting Foodbanks was created in response to the growing demand on foodbanks in Liverpool.
Aided by a huge number of volunteers, and immediately identifiable for its purple van, Fans Supporting Foodbanks conducted a matchday collection at every game until the COVID-19 pandemic began earlier this year.
However, football fans and supporters of foodbanks across the city, and beyond, have helped to fill the void left on matchdays with cash donations to the initiative.
And the patch worn by the Reds in the build-up to the derby will be available to purchase online and in club stores, priced £5, with all proceeds going to Fans Supporting Foodbanks.
The warm-up tops will also be signed by the players and used to raise further much-needed funds to sustain the demand for emergency food parcels as the pandemic continues.
