An enthralling clash between the Premier League’s top two was settled in the last minute at Anfield as Roberto Firmino powered in a header to clinch three points that lifted the Reds above Spurs at the summit.
Mohamed Salah’s deflected effort had previously been cancelled out by Son Heung-Min but the reigning champions refused to give it up and went in front in the division as a result.
Henderson spoke to Amazon Prime Video post-match and you can read the captain’s take on the dramatic win below…
On it being a ‘heavyweight’ clash and what it felt like to play in…
Yeah, I thought it was a good game – very tactical and probably what you expected a little bit in terms of us dominating with the ball, creating chances and then [we] get done on the counter in the first half. We’ll be disappointed with that because we knew that was the case, but overall I thought the performance was outstanding. I thought we dominated for large periods with the ball, we created some good chances and never stopped – kept going right until the end and got the winner which I think we deserved.
On whether he thought a winner was going to elude Liverpool…
We just concentrate on keeping going until the whistle goes. We don’t think about records or outcomes, we’re here to win games and we don’t stop until the final whistle. Unfortunately at the weekend we didn’t manage to find a winner, today we did. So I’m delighted with the lads, I thought the performance was outstanding and deserved the three points.
On whether it was the Reds’ best performance of the season so far…
I would say it was one of our best performances of the season, personally. With the ball, without the ball, the counter-press was really good, winning the ball back high up, relentless with the pressure. I’m over the moon, as you can see.
On Rhys Williams’ display on his Premier League debut…
Well, I told you before the game he had been outstanding and I hoped for the same tonight and he was outstanding again. He was one of the best players on the park, he won the majority of things in the air, defended, I could hear him talking all the time, for such a young lad. Delighted for him. But not just him – Fabinho next to him, the whole back four and the whole team, to be honest.
On leapfrogging Spurs into top spot in the Premier League…
We just want to focus on ourselves, I know we keep saying this and it might get boring but we do, we focus on ourselves and yes, it might give them a little downer because we got the three points but it’s more about us and what we do. We’re delighted with the three points and our focus has now got to be on the weekend, which comes quick against Palace, who are a very good side, as you know. They have got some very good results of late, so that will be a tough test for us.
