Alisson Becker became the latest recruit on Thursday evening when he joined the Reds from AS Roma on a long-term contract.
The goalkeeper followed in the footsteps of Naby Keita, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri in moving to Anfield to bolster the options Klopp has available at his disposal.
Speaking at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte ahead of Liverpool’s International Champions Cup encounter with Borussia Dortmund on Sunday, the manager outlined why he believes each of the quartet of fresh arrivals will help his side continue their development under his tenure.
Klopp said: “So far it is a really good year for us because we have a very good squad and were pretty successful last year, [we] played pieces of wonderful football last year – but still, we needed to replace players.
“Emre Can left, so it was very good business with bringing Fabinho in. Naby Keita we already wanted to have last year; a wonderful player, so it was a no-brainer only the money was a little issue but the club gave us the opportunity [to sign him].
“We had a lack of width in the squad a little bit in the offensive line, so [we brought in] Shaqiri – [you] saw him playing in the World Cup. Not only the World Cup; I know Stoke got relegated last year, but he had a lot of really good games.
“It’s how it is for really good footballers when they are fighting against relegation – it is not the football for them, that’s how it is, so he could not have the world’s best season, but he can make the next step. For him, in his career it’s a very good moment, being 26 and having already a lot of experiences and stuff like that.
“Then there was a world-class goalkeeper available in Rome with a pretty long contract, so you cannot ask for a free transfer!
“We have the players we wanted and I am fine with that.”
