Watch: Jasmine Matthews on returning to LFC Women
On returning to Liverpool FC Women…
I'm delighted to be back. When I knew Matt was coming to Liverpool it was always on the radar to come back and I'm really excited to be here.
On her first spell at the club…
I've got great memories from here. I loved playing in front of the Liverpool fans and they always built up a great atmosphere. The fans really do build up a great atmosphere for the team and Prenton Park is a nice stadium as well. You can really hear them get behind you and that always helps on the field. I had a great relationship with the girls as well so I'm really excited to meet them all again.
On her strengths as a player…
Recently I've been playing a little bit in midfield but normally I'm a defender. I like to pass the ball around and I don't mind a challenge as well.
On working with Matt Beard before…
When I found out Matt was coming here I was really excited because I did love Liverpool when I was here before and working with him at Bristol City, he really got the best out of me. As a coach he's just great and I'm really excited to be here again and with Matt. When he phoned me to have a conversation it was a no-brainer really and I just wanted to come to Liverpool under Matt. I think you know exactly where you stand with him and if it's not good enough then he will tell you. But he will sing your praises as well, which is also nice to hear as a player. He always gets the best out of the team.
On the Reds' aims for 2021-22…
This team does belong in the WSL and I'm here to help the team get there. I really do believe that Matt is going to help the team get back to where they belong and that is ultimately why I'm here. I want to play in the WSL for Liverpool as well so hopefully we can do that.
