As the celebrations of Liverpool Football Club's 125th anniversary year continue, a unique animation has been released to remember its first ever game, which took place on September 1, 1892.

The video tells the story of how John Houlding put his reputation on the line following his acrimonious departure from Everton to form Liverpool FC.

The team, assembled in just a matter of weeks, was Houlding's greatest gamble, and they took to the pitch for the first time with barely 100 people looking on.

However, a side made up entirely of Scotsmen went on to claim an astonishing 7-1 victory over Rotherham on their debut.

Fast-forward 125 years, LFC will celebrate its first game at the Reds' clash with Burnley on September 16.
