Two lucky Liverpool fans were selected at random to install special 125th anniversary corner flags on the pitch at Anfield for Saturday's game against Burnley.

David Withers and son Michael, 11, were outside the stadium before the Premier League match when they were approached by chance and offered a unique task.

The 125-themed corner flags were just one element of a range of activities to mark the recent anniversary of the club’s first ever fixture – a 7-1 victory over Rotherham Town on September 1, 1892.

David – who has supported the Reds since the age of six – and Michael were attending their first Anfield game since returning to the United Kingdom from living in Shanghai.

Having fulfilled their unexpected duty ahead of kick-off, the father and son took up their spots on the Kop to watch Jürgen Klopp’s side as they were held to a 1-1 draw by the Clarets.
