Throughout LFC's 125th anniversary year, Liverpoolfc.com will retrace the club's history through the striking images that plot a fascinating journey.

Sixteenth in the series shows two of the club’s greatest strikers basking in the glory of a trophy win that came at opposite ends of their respective careers.

Between them, Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler scored 529 goals for Liverpool.

Five hundred and twenty-nine goals.

None of that astonishing total were scored in the game this celebratory photograph was taken after, though.

Thanks in the main to a virtuoso, two-goal display from Steve McManaman, the Reds had just defeated Bolton Wanderers 2-1 at Wembley to win the 1995 League Cup.

The victory represented a 33-year-old Rush's 14th and final major honour as a Liverpool player, and a teenage Fowler's first.

That the duo's goal-laden careers overlapped was something Fowler was always grateful for. It was a textbook case of the apprentice being schooled by the master.

"He's done it all before and knows the ins and outs of the game," Fowler said at the time.

"I know I've been lucky. I'm learning from the best and if you don't learn from the likes of Ian, then who can you learn from?"

Partnering Rush up front, Fowler - who turned 20 exactly a week after this final - scored 31 goals across all competitions in 1994-95.

He would go on to net 36 times the following season - Rush's final term at Anfield - and then another 31 in 1996-97, after he'd inherited the No.9 shirt from his partner, tutor and mentor.
