One of the most respected administrators football has known, Peter Robinson ensured that Liverpool Football Club's off-field activities ran as smoothly as the team played on it.
Recruited from Brighton in the aftermath of the club’s first FA Cup triumph, Robinson coped admirably with the increasing workload brought about by the Reds’ continuing involvement in Europe and gradual expansion as the country’s most successful side.
While the manager looked after team affairs, Robinson dealt efficiently with all administrative matters, going about his business quietly in the background with the minimum of fuss.
Never one to court publicity or air Liverpool’s dirty linen in public, he ensured that any potential controversies were swiftly dealt with behind closed doors and was an active champion of the much-vaunted ‘Liverpool Way’.
Playing a key role in transfer negotiations and travel plans, he worked alongside a succession of managers during his illustrious three-and-a-half decades with the club and was a particularly close confidant of Bill Shankly.
