Reds support Rainbow Laces campaign
Liverpool Football Club is supporting Stonewall's Rainbow Laces campaign at this weekend's game against Sunderland.
The Reds have joined the nationwide campaign which helps to raise awareness that LGBT people are welcome at every level of sport. Research by Stonewall shows that half of all sports fans have heard offensive remarks about lesbian, gay, bi and trans people in the last five years.
At Saturday’s Premier League clash with Sunderland at Anfield, the club will show its support to Rainbow Laces with a number of activities to help raise awareness, which will include Reds captain Jordan Henderson wearing a special captain’s armband.
LGBT fan group ‘Kop Outs’ and Liverpool Pride will also be handing out rainbow laces outside the stadium before the game.
Paul Amann, the Liverpool FC Supporters’ Committee representative for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) supporters, said: "I am delighted to be giving Reds fans a chance to show their solidarity with LGBT people in football."
