Liverpool FC Legends player-manager Ian Rush will send his side out against Real Madrid on Saturday with a mission to gain revenge.

A stellar line-up of former Reds is set to host the Spanish giants at Anfield in a return fixture, having suffered a 4-2 defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer of 2015.

The pre-match talk has been peppered with references to making amends for that result – and Rush was bullish in his sentiments ahead of the much-anticipated rematch this weekend.

“I’m feeling very confident,” the club’s all-time record goalscorer told Liverpoolfc.com.

“It was a great game over there; that was a game we lost but believe we should have won. Coming to Anfield with a full house is really exciting and all the lads are looking forward to playing.

“For us, it’s half-time – we’re 4-2 down at half-time so we’re going into the game wanting two or three goals more to win.”

A capacity crowd is expected for an event that will support the crucial work of the Liverpool FC Foundation, with proceeds donated to its projects and partnerships which aim to improve the lives of children and young people.

And, after assessing the quality of options he has to choose from, Rush promised a high standard of performance from the home team.

“We’ve got quite a big squad… the problem is getting everyone a game!” he said.

“We’re there because everyone wants to play and they are all going to play. But we want to win. We’ve got a strong squad.

“We know Real Madrid have a good, strong squad as well, but we’ve got Stevie, who has just finished playing, Carra is as fit as anything, and you’ve got Luis Garcia – who is probably the fittest man out of everyone. We play as a team and I think we can get the result.”

Supporters in attendance – or watching free of charge on LFCTV, LFCTV GO and Facebook – can bank on seeing Rush tread the Anfield turf again, too.

He revealed: “I’m definitely going to play some part and I’ll be looking forward to doing it.

“Everyone wants to play. Some people can play for 90 minutes, some for 20 minutes. We’ll just see how it’s going. But I’ll definitely play some part in the game.”
