'I still live on goals' - Fowler on scoring at Anfield again
Scoring at Anfield is a feeling that will never get old for Robbie Fowler, who says he still ‘lives on goals’ after netting at the Kop end yet again.
Fowler captained the Liverpool Legends to a thrilling 4-3 victory over their counterparts from Real Madrid in front of a sell-out crowd in L4 on Saturday afternoon.
The iconic former No.9 crashed a left-footed shot off the underside of the bar before slotting home a penalty with his customary coolness from 12 yards midway through the second half.
Notching in front of the Kop is hardly something new for a man who plundered 183 goals in 369 appearances across two spells with the Reds in his playing career, but Fowler insists that doing so remains as magical as ever.
“It’s always nice. I think, turning up for the game, we would’ve all been delighted with scoring and me personally, I live on goals,” he said.
“Any chance you get to play at Anfield is special, and any chance you get to do it with a Liverpool shirt on makes it even sweeter. Obviously I’m not as good as I once was, but scoring goals is still what I like doing.”

Fowler completed around 70 minutes before being withdrawn by player-manager Ian Rush to a standing ovation - and he would relish the opportunity to run out at Anfield again in the future.
“Any time we get a chance to come here is special, we don’t get that chance often now. It does get harder for us but we love it, and hopefully an occasion like this will happen again,” he added.
“We don’t know if it will but we’ve all enjoyed it and if it does happen again there’s going to be a long list of players putting their hand up and wanting to join in.
“There were 54,000 people here, people who’ve maybe never seen Liverpool play getting the chance to come to Anfield. I think everyone’s had a great day, including all the players.”
The spot-kick converted so effortlessly by Fowler was won by Steven Gerrard, whose surging run from deep was brought to an end by ex-Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek, who swapped sides to play for Madrid at half-time.
Gerrard offered all inside Anfield a reminder of his ability with a classy individual display, which also included a fine volleyed goal and two other assists for Michael Owen and John Aldridge.
And the former Liverpool skipper’s performance came as no surprise to Fowler.
“Steven is probably the last player on the pitch to retire and if you think of the greatest players in Liverpool’s history you’ve probably got Rushie, Kenny [Dalglish] and Steven,” he continued.
“You knew he was going to play well, you knew he was going to be instrumental in all the good that we did. Steven’s Steven - I don’t think anything surprises you.
“He’s a fantastic player and obviously he won the penalty as well. I think he was going to take it but I pulled rank and I wasn’t going to give up that chance of scoring in front of the Kop!
“So I thank him for letting me take that penalty to get on the scoresheet.”
