Reds legends try their hands at traditional Korean music
Liverpool FC legends Sami Hyypia, Jason McAteer and Luis Garcia took to the stage over the weekend to show off their musical and acrobatic abilities during their visit to Seoul, as part of LFC World presented by Standard Chartered Bank.
The former Reds were treated to a performance by Namsadangpae at Seoul Nori Madang - an outdoor stage that hosts diverse, traditional performances, such as folk music and mask dancing. Namsadangpae is a Korean itinerant troupe, which consists of male performers who present various performing arts such as acrobatics, singing, dancing and circus acts.
Next it was their turn to get involved and take part in a special music lesson. The trio were tasked with learning how to play Janggu, a traditional Korean drum, and were also given the opportunity to try out a few traditional dance routines such as Janggu Dance.
Armed with their new skills, the legends fully immersed themselves in the experience by trying a traditional Korean acrobatic performance called Beona, which is similar with Disc Spinning Skills on Circus for one final group performance alongside the Namsadangpae.
Hyypia said: "It’s been brilliant to visit here today and learn how to play some traditional Korean instruments and learn about mask dancing too.
"We always try to experience some of the local culture when we bring LFC World to countries around the world, and it’s so interesting to learn something new and completely different like this. It’s been a really enjoyable afternoon.”
