Charlie Adam believes Luis Suarez gave a cameo of why he is the talk of the Liverpool dressing room after producing an impressive showing in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Sunderland.

The Uruguayan capped a lively first-half display with the Reds' opening goal of the new campaign when he headed home the Scot's pinpoint free-kick on 13 minutes.

The hosts were eventually pegged back but the No.7's first appearance since his Copa America heroics left Adam in no doubt that the club have a very special talent on their hands.

"It's good to see him back because he's a top player," Adam told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"Everybody has been talking about how good he is. I think you could see why he is at this club. Like I say, he's a top player and he took his goal well.

"It was nice to get the assist but the important thing is the team winning. We are disappointed with a draw. It's not the best start but there are plenty of games to go."

The Reds enjoyed a supercharged opening to the proceedings but were made to pay for missed chances when Sebastian Larsson levelled just shy of the hour mark.

Adam acknowledges the hosts were the better side early on but remained realistic following a difficult second period.

He said: "The goal we lost was disappointing. You could say we could have nicked it in the first half but in the second half maybe we didn't do enough to win the game."

Liverpool could have been ahead inside four minutes when Suarez was brought crashing to the ground in the Sunderland penalty area.

The striker stepped up and skied the resultant spot-kick but Adam felt Kieran Richardson was lucky to remain on the field following the incident.

"I think it was a difficult decision but I think it was a red card," he said. "But the referee made the decision and you need to get on with it."

The Reds now go in search of their first win of the new campaign at Arsenal next week.

Adam accepts it will be difficult for Liverpool to secure a maiden success at the Emirates but insists the squad will look forward to the challenge.

He said: "Arsenal is a big game but every game is a big one at this club. It doesn't matter who you are playing, it's going to be a tough match. We are looking forward to it. We'll have a good week of training again and we'll prepare in the right way for Arsenal."
