'Pair will reap Exeter benefits'
Jan Molby believes the decision to field both Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll in the Carling Cup second round win over Exeter City will prove hugely beneficial to Liverpool.
The strike pair were both on target in a comprehensive 3-1 victory against the League One outfit at St James Park - and Molby is confident the pair can build on their impressive performances starting against Bolton Wanderers this evening.
"The win over Exeter was as comfortable as you would expect against a League One side, but retaining momentum was key for Kenny Dalglish's side after last weekend's impressive win at Arsenal," said the Dane.
"We saw last year that you can slip up if you take risks in this competition, but Liverpool never looked in danger, and the game also allowed Kenny to give players some extra playing time.
"It was particularly good to see both Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez on the scoresheet, as that partnership will be very important.
"Of course nobody has any worries about Suarez; he already looks like the talisman, the catalyst for everything good within the team, as he was again on Wednesday, and at Arsenal previously when he ran them ragged as a substitute.
"And to see Carroll take his goal so well was a real positive sign.
"I think he is one of those players who takes a bit of time to hit peak form.
"At the moment I'd say he looks as fit as he has ever been, and now it is just a case of matching that with sharpness, which looks like it is improving game upon game."
Meanwhile, Molby believes it's imperative Liverpool maintain the momentum they've accumulated recently against Bolton.
The Reds head into the game following wins over Arsenal and Exeter, and while the Kop legend knows Owen Coyle's men will provide a stern test, he's confident Kenny Dalglish's side can collect three points.
"Bolton visit Anfield this weekend, and retaining the momentum built up over the past week will be crucial for Kenny and his side," added Molby.
"Owen Coyle's side will also be a tough proposition, make no mistake. I like them. They are one of the better 'mid-ranked' teams in the league. They know where the net is - they have scored six goals in two games already and gave Manchester City a real tough time last weekend.
"Having said that, I expect Liverpool to prevail, if narrowly."
