Toni Silva scored twice as Liverpool U19s got their first victory in the NextGen Series after a four-star display against Molde at the Aker Stadion on Wednesday night.

Conor Coady netted a penalty and Raheem Sterling was also on the mark as Rodolfo Borrell's side won 4-0.

The young Reds were full value for the victory and played some fantastic football at times with the Molde defence finding the pace of Borrell's side in attack too hot to handle.

With Joe Rafferty missing through injury and Jon Flanagan and Jack Robinson training with the first team at Melwood, Borrell handed a first start at right-back to Northern Ireland youth international Ryan McLaughlin and he didn't let anyone down with an accomplished display.

Craig Roddan was back in central midfield alongside skipper Coady and they controlled the midfield as the young Reds bounced back in style from the opening NextGen 3-0 defeat to Sporting Lisbon.

In all honesty the score could have been more than 4-0 but for the outstanding display of Molde goalkeeper Sivert Beinset who pulled off several top drawer saves.

He showed his qualities after just three minutes when he did extremely well to keep out Silva's low curled effort after the Portugese winger left two defenders in his wake down the right.

McLaughlin was then called into defensive duties for the Reds when he produced a superb interception to block out Simon Mikeng as the striker almost got on the end of a dangerous free-kick.

On 14 minutes Sterling almost produced an exact replica of the previous evening's training session with a fine curler that would have found the top corner but for the heroics of Beinset.

Suso then came close with a drive just over the top before an inspired shout from Borrell's assistant Mark Morris played a part in the opening goal.

He told Coady to give the ball to Sterling more down the left and when the skipper obliged, the winger produced an inch-perfect cross for Silva to head home the opener after 26 minutes.

Borrell's charges should have increased their tally before the break but Beinset was the obstacle making two great saves from one-on-one situations, denying Silva after a marvellous Suso pass and then Michael Ngoo after a fine solo run.

With Andre Wisdom and Stephen Sama rock solid at the back Liverpool continued to attack in the second half.

A minute after the break it was 2-0 when Silva netted again after a brilliant one-two with Suso.

Coady then added the third from the penalty spot after Ngoo was pushed over and the skipper sunk to his knees to celebrate with the Liverpool fans behind the goal.

Sterling was then denied twice by brilliant saves from Beinset before the winger finally got the goal his display deserved.

It owed much to great pace and a real determination to get to a loose ball down the left from Brad Smith and his perfect cut back was tucked away by Sterling.

This result will now give the team great confidence for the rest of the NextGen Series and German outfit Wolfsburg lie in wait next at Anfield next Wednesday.
