Gerrard: Suarez can join greats
Steven Gerrard believes Luis Suarez has the necessary attributes to etch his name alongside some of Liverpool's greatest ever players in the club's illustrious history books.
Injuries have restricted the Reds skipper to just three appearances alongside the livewire Uruguayan striker since his January transfer from Ajax.
However, as he edges ever closer to a first-team return, Gerrard is relishing the prospect of linking up with Suarez and feels the No.7 has all the right ingredients to establish himself as a Reds legend over the coming years.
On whether Suarez could become an all-time Liverpool great, the captain told LFC TV: "I don't see why not.
"He's still young enough and I'm sure he's going to get even better than he is now, which is a scary thought.
"He's got the appetite for the game to learn and get better.
"Hopefully he will go on here for a long time because he's certainly got a massive part to play at this club in the future - the history is there to be written."
After an impressive first half-season at Liverpool, Suarez wasted little time in making his mark on 2011-12.
An opening-day goal against Sunderland was followed up by strikes against Arsenal and Exeter City, and Gerrard believes if the 24-year-old can maintain such form until the end of the campaign, it will help bolster the Reds' chances of lifting a trophy.
He added: "He's a very enthusiastic footballer and very intelligent. He's like a kid in the street and he can't wait to get out for training and games.
"Alongside Dirk of late, they've been like two Duracell bunnies. They just don't stop and for defenders that must be a nightmare, knowing when you control the ball those two will be chasing.
"It's fantastic to have him and hopefully he can continue his form until the end of the season. If he does, it will give us a much better chance of getting some silverware."
Meanwhile, Gerrard is confident Suarez's compatriot Sebastian Coates will prove to be a fine addition to Liverpool's defensive ranks.
The No.8 said: "He's young and still has a lot to learn, but what better three centre-halves to learn from as a young lad than Carra, Agger and Skrtel?
"He's come here on the back of a fantastic tournament at the Copa America, so his confidence is high, and he's got Luis to help him settle. It's a good acquisition."
