The view from Brighton
Brighton fan Scott McCarthy from WeAreBrighton.com provides the view from the Amex Stadium ahead of tonight's third round clash.
What were your thoughts at drawing Liverpool?
Pretty excited to be honest. Despite the trials and tribulations of the last few years, Liverpool are still one of the biggest clubs in the country and the chance to see World Cup winners, an England captain and all the other big name players is exactly what the new stadium was built for. Plus it's not too farfetched to think we might pull off a shock given the cup history between the two sides.
What song are we bound to hear?
Our Al-bi-on rip off of your very own Liv-er-pool chant sounds pretty impressive when the whole ground gets doing it, and of course our signature tune of Good Old Sussex by the Sea.
Best and worst thing about a visit to the American Express Community Stadium?
The worst thing is the transport - getting 22,000 people in and out of a tiny station and a site with no parking has proven a little troublesome. The best is without a doubt the pies - made by a local bakery and an absolute bargain, they are heartily recommended. And yes, it is really called that - one of the perils of these days of commercialisation, but when it's shortened to The Amex as most fans have already become accustomred to it doesn't sound that bad.
Any recommendations for our fans wanting a pint or some food?
The city centre is three stops away on the train and there are plenty of decent pubs around the station. At the ground itself there isn't really a lot although the concourses have a surprising range of drinks compared to most grounds including a couple of real ales. Foodwise, at risk of sounding like a broken record, it's all about the pies.
Player we should watch out for?
Whichever of our widemen play. Craig Noone (a huge Liverpool fan), Will Buckley and Kazenga LuaLua are easily our most creative outlets and have pace and trickery to cause problems to most defenders. Should probably give a mention to Vicente as well - he is still yet to take to the pitch for us so nobody really knows how good he is going to be, but when you've won a bucketful of trophies at Valencia and once were the subject of a £30m bid from Real Madrid you must have something about you!
Who are you worried about on our side?
With Marcos Painter suspended after getting sent off on Saturday at Leicester, it means that our assistant boss Mauricio Taricco will probably step in at left-back. Him dealing with Luis Suarez should be interesting, let's put it that way! And obviously the big names like Pepe Reina and Steven Gerrard will be nice to see.
How will your gaffer play it?
We didn't take the cup games particularly seriously last year but Gus Poyet seems to have had a change of heart this season and put out near full strength teams in both matches in this competition so far. Expect us to play from the back, stroke the ball about on the ground a lot, a fair bit of time wasting from Casper Ankergren in goal and to ultimately try and create a fair few chances.
Best thing about being a Brighton fan? And the worst?
After all our struggles in the 90s when the former chairman sold the ground with nowhere for us to play, being 90 minutes from dropping out of the league and having to put up with 14 years of home games at firstly Gillingham and then Withdean, The Amex is without a doubt the best thing about the club, especially after the battle the club and in particular the fans went through in getting the thing built. The worst is probably the lack of real local games - our nearest are Portsmouth and Crystal Palace which are 50 miles away. It means you certainly rack up the miles and the travel costs over the season.
Score prediction?
An entertaining game that finishes 2-1 to Liverpool. Knowing our luck it will probably be after extra-time as well, which would be far from ideal seeing as we've got Leeds at home on Friday night!
