Poyet: We need to be perfect
Gus Poyet says his Brighton players will have to play the 'perfect game' if they are to stand a chance of causing a cup upset against Liverpool tonight.
The Seagulls take on Kenny Dalglish's side at the Amex Stadium with a place in the fourth round of the Carling Cup at stake - and their Uruguayan boss knows the size of the task facing his men.
"When the draw happened it was like a celebration here, like we'd won the league again," said Poyet.
"I'm not going to change that because they have a great chance to play against a top-class team.
"There is no better feeling for a player who was playing in League One three months ago to play in front of 22,000 people against Liverpool. I'm not going to try to bring down those emotions.
"A team in the situation Liverpool are in, this is a cup which can be very important. It can be a trophy in the cabinet so they will take it very seriously.
"Saying that, they have injuries and suspensions so it will be a different team. But I know any player who comes in, like Dirk Kuyt or Craig Bellamy, will be top class so it's going to be difficult.
"On top of that if they react (to Sunday's defeat), play well and have the right attitude then we are going to suffer.
"We need to be at the top of our game and be a bit lucky, and maybe if Liverpool aren't then we've got a chance. If both teams play at the same level Liverpool should win because they are quicker, stronger and better technically.
"We have to make sure we are better than them on the day and take our chances. You need practically the perfect game to beat them - but we are going to try."
