Kenny Dalglish today paid tribute to Luis Suarez's all-round contribution to Liverpool and praised the No.7's appetite to make a decisive impact every time he takes to the field.

The striker has three goals to his name already so far this season, in addition to supplying several assists for his teammates.

Suarez was again provider during Wednesday's 2-1 Carling Cup win at Brighton, laying on Craig Bellamy's well-worked opener, and Dalglish believes the Uruguayan will always have a telling input.

"Luis has been fantastic for us since he walked in the door in January," he said.

"He wants to play all the time. He loves playing and always makes a contribution. He was involved in the first goal Craig scored at Brighton.

"Some people might judge players purely by goals but we will judge him by results and contributions he makes on the pitch. Whether it's scoring a goal, creating a goal or saving a goal, it doesn't make any difference. He will always make a contribution."

Suarez could consider himself unlucky not to have added to his goal tally against Brighton after seeing one effort roll millimetres wide of the post before he later struck the woodwork with a header.

Dalglish added: "Luis is not selfish - he's very much a team player. He might be disappointed not to score but he was happy with the result.

"There's nobody who has ever walked on to a football pitch who has never missed a chance.

"It's how you react to it which is the important thing.

"I probably missed more than anyone else. The next one is always the most important one."

Meanwhile, Dalglish is confident Liverpool will soon be back to their imperious best in defence.

Injuries and suspensions have forced the Reds to shuffle their back line on several occasions so far this term, while Jose Enrique and Sebastian Coates are new additions to the defensive ranks.

"There is an acceptable level of people getting to know each other," said the boss.

"You can't expect them to be spot on straight away. The most important thing is the approach and attitude, and our approach at Brighton was brilliant.

"It would have been nice to have had no goals against us, but as long as we score more at the other end, we'll win matches.

"The goalkeeper takes great pride in a clean sheet and so he should, it's as important for him to have no goals against as it is for us to score four at the other end.

"But if we are scoring four and conceding one then I'm sure we'll accept that."
