Rodolfo Borrell was full of praise for the contribution of Adam Morgan after the striker came off the bench to score twice during the 3-0 NextGen Series win over Molde on Thursday night.

Coming on as a half-time replacement for Suso, the Academy hot-shot grabbed two opportunist goals at the Kop end to give the U19s a deserved victory at Anfield.

Toni Silva added a late third as Borrell's side kept their hopes of qualifying alive for the next phase of the NextGen Series.

"It was important to put on a good performance in front of our own supporters, we scored three goals and I'm quite happy overall with the performance," said Borrell.

"In the first half they got a lot of players behind the ball and tried to stop us playing. We needed to play much quicker and we changed our system to a 442 in the second half when Morgan came on.

"He is a player who scores a lot of goals. He could start in the first XI but people need to remember he is still an U18 player. He played the full 90 minutes for the U18s and scored twice at the weekend and we want to protect him.

"Last season he scored consistently at U18 level and got many goals. He is capable of scoring a lot of goals and is a very useful player to have in our squad."

Borrell's charges complete their Group Two fixtures with a vital last game with Sporting Lisbon on November 15, and they don't play again until a trip to Newcastle on October 18, for only their second Barclays Premier Reserve League North fixture of the season.

He added:  "We now have a break before our next game which is Newcastle away. We have a very young team at reserve team level this season and every day we need to keep improving in training and just focus on the next game."
