Liverpool supporter Gregg McLeod will go the extra mile in memory of his father when he takes part in the Liverpool marathon this weekend.

The 29-year-old from the Wirral is set to continue his run from the finish line right through to Anfield, all with the aid of a Merseyside Police escort.

McLeod explained: "I'm doing the Liverpool marathon for Diabetes UK as my father suffered with the disease and passed away in August this year.

"He had lost both his legs to the disease and I honestly never realised the huge implications diabetes can have - I thought it was easily controlled by insulin.

"Dad was a police officer for 32 years with Merseyside Police and I thought it would be great PR for the police, and also for me, to have an escort from the finish line to Anfield.

"He was also a lifelong Liverpool supporter until his last day and that is what made me decide to finish the race there."

A Captain in the British Army, McLeod has already completed two tours of Afghanistan and is now hoping to push himself to the limit in aid of a good cause.
