Adam targets Spain repeat
Charlie Adam will be hoping for a repeat performance when Scotland face Spain in a crunch Euro 2012 qualifier on Tuesday night.
The Reds midfielder produced arguably his finest display for his country so far when he came off the bench to provide the catalyst for an impressive comeback from two goals down against the world champions back in October 2010.
Spain eventually went on to win the match 3-2 but it remains a key moment for Adam, who was appearing in his first competitive match for Scotland.
Adam said: "That Spain game was maybe pivotal in my international career because I played against Sweden (shortly] before that and never had a great game but came on that night and did OK and maybe that changed it.
"It was just one of those nights everything clicked. I have a few caps now and just want more."
Scotland head into the clash in Alicante knowing that defeat will more than likely see their hopes of securing a play-off berth come to an end.
Adam acknowledges he has yet to reproduce the level of his outstanding 45-minute cameo since that night at Hampden Park, but remains deeply committed to the cause.
He said: "Performance-wise, I know I can improve for Scotland. I'll put my hand up and say that but it's what happens at times. It is difficult to play at international level. But I'm learning and enjoying it and that's the important thing."
Adam may have impressed both fans of Liverpool and Blackpool with his attacking prowess, but in his 13 caps for Scotland he has operated in a more deep-lying midfield role.
He admits his preference will always be to push forward and join the attack and insists he still has the licence to do that under Craig Levein.
"I enjoy it, but the manager's not said I need to sit and play," he added. "I can go and join in and get forward. That's what I want to do. I want to score goals. It is the one thing I want to do when I play. I hope I can get some for Scotland."
