Kenny Dalglish today confirmed Steven Gerrard is making good progress in his recovery from an ankle infection.

The captain missed Liverpool's trip to West Brom last weekend and underwent a procedure to clear out all infection from his right ankle.

Gerrard will also sit out Swansea's visit to Anfield on Saturday as he continues his rehabilitation under the guidance of the club's medical staff - but Dalglish has revealed he is responding positively to treatment.

The boss told reporters at Melwood: "Since they found the infection, Steven has really been progressing extremely well. Everything is positive for him.

"They found the infection and I suppose it's a wee bit like flu - you know you've got it, but you don't know where it came from.

"But they are treating and it is responding really well, so it's positive for him. It is nothing more sinister."

Meanwhile, Dalglish revealed Liverpool will make a late check on the fitness of Jamie Carragher ahead of the clash with the Swans - but there are no other fresh injury concerns for the Reds.

He said: "We'll check on Carra for Saturday and see how he is. If he's not going to be right, he is not going to be right.

"As a football club, we're much better with those two (Carragher and Gerrard) fit. They've been fantastic servants to the club and will continue to be fantastic servants.

"It was a great achievement for the boys to get a result at West Brom without either of those two playing, but I am sure they'll not be far away from playing.

"Everybody (else) seems to be fine. Nothing new has cropped up, thankfully."

Gerrard and Carragher weren't the only duo Dalglish was quizzed about by journalists at the club's training complex after Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll linked up to devastating effect in last weekend's 2-0 win at the Hawthorns.

The gaffer admits he was pleased with the way the strike pair combined - but believes their understanding will only improve over time.

"For us, it is important there are relationships and partnerships within the team," said Dalglish. "Andy and Luis are just one of the partnerships and the more they train and play together, the better the understanding will be.

"That also applies to most of the players that have come in. The more time they spend here and together, the better their understanding will be.

"So far we've been delighted with the progress they've made."

Meanwhile, Dalglish was asked for the latest on the allegations made following the fixture with Manchester United at Anfield last month.

He said: "The FA have been here and they spoke to us. Our philosophy and desire has not changed whatsoever. We want it resolved as quickly as it possibly can be, but correctly, and we want the perpetrator punished. I don't think we need to add anything more than that."
