Why is Martin playing netball?
Martin Kelly has been given a new position - goal shooter.
But Liverpool fans needn't worry - Kenny Dalglish hasn't come up with a bizarre new formation. It was just part of a community event for which Kelly agreed to play netball.
The Premier League 4 Sport project sees top flight clubs encourage people to participate in other sports.
One of those sports is netball with the LFC Foundation's PL4S project working to organise sessions for girls aged 11-16 across the City.
After hearing about the work that's being done, Kelly popped down to Anfield Sport and Community Centre for a game with the England netball team.
The defender missed a sitter right at the start but his competitive spirit won through and he ended the game having claimed a hat-trick.
"I was happy with the goals I scored," smiled Kelly afterwards. "If you know me you know I take everything seriously, that's what I'm like.
"Maybe you could stick Andy Carroll in front of the net and he'd score a few with his height but not someone like Jay Spearing.
"Sports like netball, table tennis, volleyball, badminton - these are all sports you can enjoy and get your fitness up.
"It's vital that as players we give our support to things like this."
The Premier League 4 Sport coordinator at our very own Liverpool FC Foundation is Gemma Smith, and she is aiming to establish her own LFC netball team.
She said: "Today is about highlighting the community sessions I've just started.
"In Merseyside there are a lot of adult leagues and the idea of this is to increase the junior provision. From what I've seen today and from our sessions, there's loads of junior talent in Liverpool.
"Martin Kelly has shown that not only is he a world-class footballer, he's also a fantastic netballer as well!"
As well as Kelly, Liverpool Ladies captain Vicky Jones went along to offer her support.
