Liverpool Football Club's Action for Health scheme will enjoy a moment in the national spotlight after representatives were invited to the House of Lords for an all-party Parliamentary men's health group meeting that will take place on Monday.

Programme manager Mark Haig is one of just 50 individuals who has been asked to the capital, where he will contribute to a discussion about men's health.

Haig told Liverpoolfc.tv: "I've been invited to go along and talk about our programme. It is obviously a great honour for us and fantastic that we can get the message across about what our programme has been doing for men on Merseyside.

"We are the only football club attending because they want to learn from our men's health programme. They are interested in how we have used the LFC crest to attract men into the programme.

"The minister of public health will be giving a speech about men's health with particular emphasis on heart disease and erectile dysfunction. Men's health is a major public health issue in the UK and the success of our local programme will contribute to this national debate.

"Locally we have had real success at engaging with nearly 800 men in the last two years and men's health is a main priority for the LFC Foundation."
