This will be the 30th time the sides have met in little more than 7 years with Liverpool winning 10 and Chelsea 12.

From that clash only Fabio Aurelio, Jamie Carragher and Lucas who played for the Reds remain at Anfield while Petr Cech, John Obi Mikel, Michael Essien, Frank Lampard and Salomon Kalou are still at Stamford Bridge.

This is Liverpool's 19th appearance in a League Cup quarter-final and they are aiming to reach their 14th semi-final.

They are appearing at this stage of the competition for the first time in 4 seasons.

Liverpool have won this trophy on a record 7 occasions, the last being in 2003.

They have also appeared in the most finals - 10.

Their last final appearance saw them lose to Chelsea in Cardiff in 2005 while Liverpool beat the Blues on their way to lifting the trophy in 2000-01.

Liverpool have lost at this stage of the competition 5 times. As well as that Chelsea game in 2007 they have suffered defeat in:

Their last shoot-out saw them lose at home to Northampton last season.

In major competitive matches the Reds have won 10 of their 12 games decided on penalties.

The Reds have failed to score in only 1 of the last 41 matches in the League Cup - on this ground 4 years ago.

Liverpool reached this stage by winning 3-1 at Exeter in round 2 with goals from Luis Suarez, Maxi and Andy Carroll, and by recording a 2-1 victory at Brighton in round 3 thanks to Craig Bellamy and Dirk Kuyt.

In the last round they came from behind to see off Stoke at the Britannia 2-1 with Luis Suarez scoring twice in a game for the Reds for the first time.

This is Liverpool's 4th successive away fixture in the League Cup. They are aiming to record 4 away victories in the same domestic competition in the same season for the first time in their history.

Liverpool have scored 14 hat-tricks in this competition with the last coming from Fernando Torres at Reading in a 4-2 win in September 2007.

They were Fernando's only goals in his 3 League Cup appearances for Liverpool.

Liverpool have kept only 1 clean sheet in the last dozen League Cup ties.

The Reds have lost to London clubs in this competition in 6 of the last 7 seasons.

Liverpool have won 5 away games in succession in all competitions. The last time they recorded 6 in a row was in May 2006.

They are unbeaten on the road since losing at Tottenham in late September.

The Reds have used 22 different players in this competition this season and Glen Johnson, Jose Enrique and Fabio Aurelio have yet to appear.

Luis Suarez with 3 is the club's leading scorer in the League Cup this season.

Liverpool are hoping to record a 4th successive win over Chelsea for the first time since 1974.

They have lost just 1 of their last 5 visits to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have won this competition on 4 occasions (only Liverpool 7 and Aston Villa 5 have won more). The Londoners' successes came in 1965, 1998, 2005 and 2007.

Chelsea's League Cup run this season:
Round 3 beat Fulham on pens at home after a 0-0 draw.
Round 4 won 2-1 at Everton (Kalou, Sturridge).

Since winning at Everton in the last round Chelsea have won 2 of the 6 games they have played. They beat Wolves 3-0 in the league last Saturday.

Daniel Sturridge has scored 2 goals in his last 3 games.

The Blues have kept just 3 clean sheets in the last 13 games.

If they prevent Liverpool scoring it will be the first time since March they have kept back to back clean sheets.

Chelsea have failed to score in only 1 of their last 13 games - a 1-0 defeat at QPR when they finished the game with 9 men.

Fernando Torres has scored 5 goals in 32 games in league and cup since his move from Anfield last January.
