Kelly: I can score more
Martin Kelly helped fire Liverpool into the semi-finals of the Carling Cup with his first goal in red against Chelsea - and then declared: 'I can score more'.
The England U21 international headed home Craig Bellamy's pinpoint free-kick to put the seal on a brilliant night for Kenny Dalglish's charges, after Maxi had fired the visitors in front.
"I was made up with the goal and it was a long time coming getting my first one for Liverpool," said Kelly.
"It was a great cross from Craig and I managed to get a free header. We were attacking the end with all the away supporters and it was brilliant seeing all their emotions as they celebrated. It's fantastic to get a goal for such a big club.
"I scored a couple of goals for England U21s recently and it was great to score against Chelsea and help us reach the semi-final of the Carling Cup.
"We have beaten Chelsea twice now in the space of a few weeks and it was a great team effort out there.
"We definitely deserved the win. With the possession we had in the first half we knew the goal was coming and we are delighted to get the victory."
Following the match, Kelly revealed via his Twitter account that he had won a bet with Jay Spearing after becoming the first one to notch his maiden goal for the club.
He insists it is a part of his game he can continue to build upon and has promised supporters he will do his utmost to add to his tally in the future.
He said: "I'm made up to get a chance tonight and now I have to keep working hard in training.
"I hope to bring more goals to my game. I used to be a central midfielder when I was younger and I do have that attribute in my locker.
"I keep working on my attacking play as well as keeping on top of the defensive work.
"At the minute I'm looking forward to getting some more game time and showing the boss what I can do.
"You can sometimes think too far ahead, so we'll take this victory and now start preapring for Fulham next week.
"When the Carling Cup next comes around we'll try our best to get through to the final."
Kelly also praised Sebastian Coates who had an inspired game at centre-half alongside Jamie Carragher.
He added: "Seb had a great game. We have a great squad and it's a waiting game but he took his chance tonight and played his part in a great team display."
Liverpool will find out who they face in the last four of the competition when the draw is made following tonight's final quarter-final between Manchester United and Crystal Palace.
Kelly admits he is already dreaming of Wembley and is relishing the prospect of realising a boyhood fantasy.
"We're looking forward to the semi-finals and hopefully getting to the final at Wembley," he said.
"If you ask any young lad, they dream of one day playing in a final at Wembley and I'm no different.
"I can't wait for the next round and hopefully I'll be a part of that."
Kenny Dalglish made seven changes to the side that were held to a 1-1 draw by Manchester City just 48 hours prior to the triumph at Stamford Bridge.
Kelly feels the fact they could still put out such a strong line-up illustrates the squad depth the Reds boss now has available to him.
He said: "It's good for us to have such a strong squad and you could see the benefit of that tonight. We were all playing together as a team for Kenny and for one another. That showed tonight.
"That's why we came out on top and we definitely deserved to win."
