"I love Liverpool, it was a big part of my life," he told us.

"I think it was the happiest time of my life being up here and playing out there in front of the Kop - it was my happiest football time."

Reflecting upon the day he signed for the Reds, he said: "Souness met me at Anfield, took me in the trophy room, then the boot room and the dressing room. We then went down the stairs to touch the 'This Is Anfield sign' - we actually walked out on the pitch too. It was still the old Kop. As soon as I saw that I thought nothing gets better than this.

"You didn't have to sell the football club to me. The football club sold itself."

Throughout the interview, the man nicknamed Razor refuses to duck any issues, explaining the infamous 'pass the pound' incident as well as an alternative use for the Manchester United shirt he claimed following the Wembley showdown back in 1996 - a match that left him heartbroken after Roy Evans opted to omit him from his starting line-up.

"I've got Cantona's FA Cup Final shirt at home, which is nice," he said.

"Because when you need to change the oil on your car... if you ever get oil on your hands, you just use Cantona's shirt!"
