Liverpool Football Club has given its backing to the Samaritans' Operation Christmas Child programme by donating a number of shoeboxes to the appeal.

Shoeboxes loaded with gifts were collected from various LFC departments.

They were then delivered to the Samaritans via the LFC Community Department's mini van, where they will be sent out to underprivileged children across the globe this Christmas.

Last year, over 1.12 million shoeboxes from the UK and Ireland were sent out to 18 countries across Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia via the Operation Christmas Child scheme.

LFC Community Department manager Bill Bygroves said: "Samaritan's Purse do a great job and I have seen first hand how much a shoebox filled with gifts is appreciated.

"It really is 'love in a box'. I am so glad the club have made a contribution towards the needy this Christmas time."
