'We can challenge on all fronts'
Liverpool have a squad capable of securing both a trophy and a return to the Champions League this season, according to Alan Hansen.
The Anfield legend believes the Reds have put together a contingent of players that is strong enough to achieve their goals on all fronts this term - insisting they are able to beat anybody on their day.
Hansen told Liverpoolfc.tv: "What we want is both (trophies and a top-four finish) - we want the Carling Cup, the FA Cup and to finish in the top four.
"We can do it because what we've got is a team capable of beating anyone.
"We've got a bench with players that can come on and change the game, and that's been a long time coming.
"If you look at the squads of other big teams, they've got amazing strength in depth. We've never had that. We've had 11 players that could beat anybody, but not strength and depth."
Liverpool bolstered their squad significantly over the summer, bringing in no fewer than seven senior players.
While Hansen has been impressed by the new arrivals, he feels there is still much more to come as they continue to settle into Anfield life.
He added: "Kenny has bought really well. It's really hard to integrate four or five new players in the first season - and everybody finds that out - so next season we will be stronger.
"Hopefully we can get the top four because the big nights in the Champions League are absolutely fantastic. We haven't had one for a while, and everyone's greedy and wants more.
"Liverpool supporters want to be top of the tree and they want us back where we should be.
"It's exciting times and I think the big thing for Liverpool and the supporters is they are looking forward to every single game coming up."
January will mark one year since Dalglish returned to the Liverpool hot seat.
Hansen has been impressed by the transformation the Scot has masterminded, and feels a bit more fortune in front of goal would see the Reds higher up the table.
"It's been a fantastic turnaround," he said. "Going into the ground this time last year, everyone was down whereas the perception is different now and you go into Anfield with everyone upbeat.
"We've seen a lot of great performances and a lot of entertainment. I don't think we've got as many points as the play has deserved, but we've got four games before we go to Manchester City that are winnable.
"I think Kenny will be saying to the players just keep playing the way you're playing and the luck will turn. We keep having goalkeepers making unbelievable saves in the last minute, we went to Fulham last week, controlled the game but came away with no points.
"But the great line from Joe Fagan at this sort of time is 'just keep going'. Sooner or later at home, we will thump somebody."
One area of Dalglish's side which requires little room for improvement is the defence.
The Reds boast the meanest rearguard in the Barclays Premier League, having conceded just 13 goals in their 15 matches so far this season.
"The sign of any great side is the foundation and Liverpool have got that," said Hansen. "The 'keeper is fantastic, Glen Johnson is a really good player and the two centre-backs have done remarkably well.
"The big thing now is keeping them all fit because if we can do that then we can go from strength to strength.
"Enrique has been a great buy at left-back and the fact Carragher's been injured and can't get back in when he's fit again speaks volumes for the two centre-backs.
"They've played exceptionally well all season, apart from the game against Tottenham, and if you've got a lot of the ball, it takes the pressure off you defensively."
